Congratulations to Mr. Slade’s class who did NOT win the Christmas Elves competition!  Instead, Mrs. Buzak’s 8A won the ice cream cake for raising 1670 points!  Your ice cream cake is coming next week!  Well done Buzakians!

Grade 8 sign up block 1 or 2, grade 9 block 3 or 4, grade 7 lunch or later
The grade 7 and 8 Christmas Escape Room is a two block session, you must choose it for block 3 and 4.
If you would like to watch the BHA Christmas Cup game at the KNRCC you need to sign up for both blocks 3 and 4.
If you sign up for skating you need SKATES and a helmet!

Congrats to all the band members for their great performances last night. Thank you to the teachers and administration that came out to support the band. A very special thanks to students who helped clean up the percussion equipment and bass amps after the concert was over. Your help was greatly appreciated!


If you missed the meeting for STE(A)M yesterday and are interested in attending the conference, you need to get a paragraph to Mme Goudreau by the end of the day outlining what makes you a good candidate to attend.

Tomorrow is Holiday Hat Day! Wear your very own Elf, Santa or Christmas creation!

Rafikis will be on sale tomorrow at lunch in the foyer. For $10 you can buy a gift for a loved one while giving back  to women and children in need!

In support of our ÉJELS Christmas Elves and Santa’s Anonymous, we will be having a competition between homerooms. The winning homeroom gets an ice cream cake!
Here's how we play: Students must bring in different items and put them in a donation box. Depending on the items you bring in your homeroom will get a certain amount of points. If you want to know how many points each item is worth check with your homeroom teacher and the points chart and hang. The homeroom with the most points wins.


Reminder students that Hats, hoodies, toques are not allowed to be worn in school and class as well Inappropriate language in the hallways is not allowed.

We are only a day in to our Christmas Elves competition and Mr. Slade’s class had already raised 150 points!  Looks like the rest of you do not stand a chance.

Our Toonies for Taylor campaign has already raised more than $500, but we definitely want to help more. Taylor’s parents are spending over $20 a day just to park at the hospital and see Taylor, not to mention the cost of basic needs like meals while at the hospital. Your donations are important because Taylor's parents use them to get through their day and stay with Taylor, giving him the support he needs. If you want to make a donation there’s a jar in the office where they are being collected, every little bit helps. (Mason)

Our annual JEL Christmas tradition had begun.  The Christmas Elves Competition has classes earn points for food, clothing, and toy donations for those in need this Christmas.  Mme Stewart is the defending, defending, defending champion, so talk to your teacher and see how your class can knock her off and win a huge DQ ice cream cake.

For the next while, there will be no access to the school from the outside door nearest the Ken Nichol Recreation Centre.  All students and staff must use the exit beside the new classroom wing to go to the back of the school. Also, access to the washrooms in the hallway by the old gym is only available through the hallway from the front of the school.  Please note that no one is allowed beyond any yellow caution tape.  Thank you.

Update for the One-Act Festival - all students who signed up to be a part of the One-Act-Festival need to see Ms Jensen and Mr Eidick today at lunch in room 203 to pick up their schedules and scripts. Rehearsals start this week after school.

PIZZA TUESDAY!!!!

The equipment that our School Council purchased for student use outside at noon hour is very popular!  This is wonderful.  However, the last few days many, many items were left on the school grounds at the end of the recess.  If you take equipment out, you are responsible to return it to the bin. 

Massive congratulations going out to the junior boys volleyball team for capturing the silver medal this weekend!!! Well done guys!!

French Band practice start’s after school today. Please come to the Band Room for 3h10. If you can’t make it please talk to Mme LaBrie.

Students, please ensure that you have your locks secured on your lockers at all times.  This is to be sure that all of your belongings are safe. If you are having challenges with your locker, please let your teacher know or check with Mr. Helgren or Mrs. Tonita.

Yearbooks - If you ordered a 2017-2018 yearbook, drop by the office during one of the breaks to pick up. Did you forget to order one and would like one, we have a few copies for sale for $30.00.

The start of Jazz Band is postponed until next Wednesday, Oct. 10th. All Grade 8 or 9 band members are invited to attend. Practices are at 7:30am in the band room.

Ms Gervais’ health classes are asked to bring a duotang and lined paper to class today.

There will be short meeting today at lunch for anyone interested in choir. Bring your lunch to the band room at 12:26. The choir will be preparing music for the Remembrance Day ceremony, as well as Christmas concert.

There will also be a short meeting today for anyone going to Camp Evergreen at 12:45 in the band room. If you are going to camp on Thursday morning, you must be at this meeting, so please remember to attend.

Orange Shirt Day tomorrow, Friday, September 28 - As we learn more about the effects that residential schools had on so many young people, we learn that we are all connected and the hurts of one community affect all of us.  In solidarity with our indigenous people, we encourage all staff and students to wear an orange shirt tomorrow. 

Congratulations to our many cross country members who participated in the LDAA track meet yesterday.  What a fabulous showing!  Our results were outstanding, in true J.E.L. tradition. As well, we are extremely proud of the behaviour of all of these students ,as you represented our school in such a way that others look to our school and want to be like us.  Thank you also to M Morin and Mr. Mistol for coordinating this event.

Attention all students: This year, J.E. Lapointe and Me to We has committed to the Leduc Food bank (serving Beaumont) to raise 860 items of food by October 5th; to meet this challenge, we need YOUR help!

If each one us contributes 2 non-perishable food items, we will meet our goal and help families in need celebrate a Thanksgiving for which to be thankful. Let’s do this! Bring in as many items as you can to your homeroom teacher starting tomorrow! :)

A huge thank you must go out to Mr. Morin for planning a fantastic grade nine farewell trip to Jasper.  Students, teachers, and parents had a great time, so, if you are in grade nine and you see Mr. Morin today, give him a high five or a hug.

This is the last day to hand in Community Service hours. Students can drop them off in room 122 anytime this morning.

There are still quite a few instruments in the band room. They all need to be gone by today please. It is the parent’s responsibility to get them back to the rental store, as the school does not return instruments.

Popcorn Sale: Thursday at lunch, “Me to We” students will be hosting a popcorn sale with profits going to “Zoe’s Animal Rescue”. You can purchase a bag of freshly popped corn for $1 while helping out animals in need. Flavour shakers will be available to season your popcorn. See you there!

Tomorrow is the final Pizza Tuesday of the year!  To celebrate, there will be one winner of a BOX of ice cream sandwiches!  In addition, our winner will get a high five from Mr. Mistol!  So come on out, grab a slice, and give yourself a chance to win two amazing prizes!

A huge congratulations goes out to the Sabres Track and Field team on their amazing performance last Thursday in Leduc.  We are thrilled to be sending a total of 27 athletes to the Zones 5 meet next Tuesday in St. Albert.  To see if you have qualified, the final results are now on the athletic board.
Also, we will have practice today at lunch for all events for zone qualifiers, bring your lunch to the field at 12:26.

Reminder to Gr. 8 Home ec students to NOT sign up for flex next week .

ABSOLUTELY LAST CALL FOR grade nine pictures for the farewell!

ALL Grade 8 & 9 students going on the band trip next week, must come to the band room RIGHT NOW. French Immersion students, please see Mrs. Baron before you leave!

Also, remember to get your homework for next week, take your instrument & music home today and be ready to board the bus at 5:45am on Monday morning. The bus MUST leave at 6am, so do not be late!

Lastly, there will be a band trip meeting in the band room today at 12:45.

FLEX Update… the form will not be ready for sign up until lunch. sign up order stays the same: Grade 9: lunch, Grade 8: block 5, grade 7: block 6 or later.

Track athletes that have qualified for zones there will be practice time available block 3 for running and throwing events and block 4 will be available for jumping practice at the pits.  Please sign up accordingly.  Questions - see Mr Mistol or Mrs Dorash. 

As with all Fridays, today is Dress Down to Build Others Up for staff, where we dress more casually and donate money to others who are less fortunate.  The donation jar is in the main office.

Farewell speakers from each grade nine homeroom.  Please see Mr. Slade in his classroom at 1244 today. There is an important meeting to discuss a change in the format for our farewell evening.

Talent Show auditions continue at 12:26 today in the gym for dancers and gymasts. Tomorrow is instrumental and any other acts.

Discus finals are today at lunch.  Please check the athletic board to see if you have qualified. 
If you are going to Coloniale to try-out for long and triple jump during Flex, please meet in the gym at the start of period 3.

Active Living students are reminded to hand in their waivers for personal training next week. There are only 4 spots left, so get your form in to Mrs. Baron ASAP! Please also be sure to tell your parents to sign the online permission form on Powerschool.

Fortnite!  Now that I have your attention, Mr. Slade really needs the grade nine farewell pictures as soon as possible.  If you do not submit, your school picture will be used in the slideshow.

Today is the javelin finals for both boys and girls!  Meet out in the field at 12:26pm.  There is a list of finalists on the athletic board.  If you missed that event during class or would like to try-out, anyone is welcome.  Again...even if you are NOT on the list, you can still come at lunch.

The exhibits at the science fair last night were phenomenal.  Mr. Slade got some great feedback from parents, staff, and students.  Thanks to all those that put in the time and effort.  Would all available participants please come to the gym after announcements to help put away tables?

One final note from the Science Fair - the decision is in, as voted by you, and the teacher with the nastiest keyboard, and winner of a container of Lysol wipes, is Mr. Morin!

Congratulations to Mr. Raymond and Mr. Mistol on defeating Micah and German is last nights epic badminton match during the open house.  The boys fought hard, but as the great Lou Holtz once said: “You’re only as good as your last game”.  With that being said, Mr. Mistol and Mr. Raymond are going out on top and retiring from the sport.

Attention all “Water Warriors” contenders:

Upon reviewing Friday’s results, the Water Walk Committee has concluded that  the most deserving recipient of the 2018 “Water Warriors” Title is M. Morin’s class.  They shall receive the honor to guard the water jug trophy this year. We acknowledge that 7D did have the fastest time, however M. Morin’s class arrived at the finish line with all of their village members, while 7D had a few missing members at their clocked in time.

Congratulations to M. Morin and his students on working as a team to complete the entire course united and without wheels!
All students: Don’t miss your chance to “Pie a teacher” this Wednesday during lunch recess. Bring a Loonie! All proceeds will go towards our water goal. Students, you are very close to meeting every single Water Challenge by reaching $2000! You supply the Loonies, we supply the pies!

There will be a brief meeting in the gym for all badminton players who are competing in Wetaskiwin this Saturday.  Also, good luck!

Did you know that the average total cost for drilling and maintaining a well in India is $5000-15 000? That is to provide a whole community with water for many years or for a lifetime. That means health, education, agriculture sustainability, and a better quality of life. Thank-you for joining us today in our Walk for Water.

So far, we have raised over $800, that is before all of you contributing $3!

Which tribe will work together today to become the first annual “Water Warriors” today by winning the Water Walk Challenge? Will you claim the trophy and bragging rights?

The Science Fair is next Thursday!  Make sure that you wrap things up this weekend!

There will be a short assembly this morning, beginning at 8:40, for all grade nine students.  Teachers, please bring your class to the gym and you are free to go afterwards.  It should take about 20 minutes.

A huge congratulations goes out to the Sabres Badminton team on their performance at the North finals this Saturday in Devon.  JE Lapointe came in first in 14 of 15 categories and 2nd in the other.  All of our athletes have qualified for the final tournament in Wetaskiwin this Saturday.

Group #1 badminton practice is today after school.

Also, if you are not playing in this Saturday’s badminton tournament,  you need to bring your jersey back before tomorrow.

Are there any Science Fair forms still be handed in?  Mr. Slade is waiting until the end of the day!

The school talent show is happening May 23rd. Performers are chosen by audition, so if you are interested in trying out, please sign up with Mrs. Baron. Auditions will take place at lunch during the week of May7th.

All Discover Scuba students are reminded to be in the band room today at morning break.

Grade nine students.  Please email Mr. Slade a picture of you as a baby, infant, or toddler AND PLEASE take the time to recreate it and send that picture too.  We are going to create an awesome farewell video.

Mr. Slade will accept late Science Fair project forms until tomorrow morning so get them in and show the world what an Einstein you are.

All dancers that will perform on Wednesday need to come in Miss Gervais room at 12h26 until the bell for the afternoon. Bring your lunch you could eat it while we are practicing. If you are one of the three singers and you would like to also practice. Please come see me in Miss Gervais room and we will find you a place.

Science Fair planning forms are due to Mr. Slade or Mme Stewart by Monday.

Ms Gervais’ room will be open to Me to We students today at lunch. You may come work on any project such as video, announcements, posters or planning.

Pride Alliance GSA students are most welcome to also come to Ms Gervais’ room to have lunch today. There will be no formal meeting today, but you are welcome to come for lunch.

Congratulations to Teanna, Jaden and Shayla for your music festival solo performances on Wednesday. That takes a lot of courage and you all did a great job.

Congratulations to our school concert and jazz bands as well. Your performances yesterday earned you both a GOLD standard, so great job to you!

Thanks to any of the students that stayed after school yesterday to help unload instruments.
Mrs. Baron’s Active Living students are asked to check with her before getting changed for class today.

Thursday, April 12 is Jersey Day.  Wear a jersey to school (any sport) in support of the Humboldt Broncos. ) Band members: You are playing at the festival on this day, but if you would like to wear a jersey over your white shirt that will be ok too.

Congratulations to the choir on their GOLD medal performance yesterday! Great job choir!

Band members are reminded of their performance tomorrow. Remember to wear black and white and to come to the band room as soon as you get to school. Instruments will be loaded into parent cars at the back parking lot from 8:15 to 8:30. Band students will go to homeroom for attendance and announcements, then head to the busses that will be at the front of the school.

There is an emergency meeting for all choir members today at the morning break. This meeting is about the festival TOMORROW, so everyone must attend.

There are still numerous permission forms missing for the Leduc Music Festival. Band students are asked to PLEASE remind your parents and guardians to complete the online forms ASAP!

Grade 7 band members will be joining the Grade 9 band this morning for period 2. Grade 7 students are to come to the band room at the start of period 2 to get set up to play with the 9’s. There will NOT be an announcement, so please remember to come.

Congratulations to the Sabres badminton team on their amazing performance over the weekend.  JE won the aggregate trophy as the top team in Ardrossan with 48 out of a possible 50 points.  The Juniors also did amazing in Sherwood Park against older competition, winning several medals.
