Drum roll please… we have the winners of the 2017 9BC Reindeer Games.  In third place, the JE Jellyfish with 156 points, in second place team Landry with 158 points and in first place with 165 points: The Yetis!! We would also like to congratulate Team Landry for being chosen as the Most Sportsmanlike team.  Landry and Yetis come to the gym at the break to claim your prizes.

The Christmas Elves Competition winner has been determined!  Drum roll please….Mr. Eidick’s 9C and Mrs. Buzak’s 8A Classes are the 2017 Co-Champs!  Your ice cream cakes will come next week!

District girls’ tryout will continue Tuesday, December 19th, at 3:10pm.

Thank you to all of the girls that came to try out for the Senior Ladies Basketball team and congratulations to those that made the final cuts. There will be a practice on Thursday morning at 7:10.

Senior Boys basketball try-outs resume today at 12:26pm.  Hurry to the gym and bring your lunch.

Junior boys tryout is cancelled Thursday after school due to the band concert.  You will have a tryout on Friday at lunch.

There will be a first round of cuts posted for the Junior Girls Basketball today at lunch, our next tryout will be Friday at 7:10am instead of 12:16.

Grade 7 girls please remember that we will carry on with District tryouts next week. 
The gym will be used to set up for the Band and Choir Concert periods 5 and 6 tomorrow.

There will also be a combined Grade 7, 8 & 9 band practice during period 6 tomorrow, so grade 8 & 9 band members are asked to leave class at 2:30, set up their instrument in the band room and come to the gym for 2:40pm. This means that Grade 8 & 9 band members need to have their instruments here tomorrow during the day, not just for the concert!

A reminder to all band & choir students that the Christmas concert is this Thursday, Dec. 7th! This warm weather isn’t making it feel like Christmas, so let’s bring on the Christmas spirit with our music. The doors will open at 6:30pm for all students and parents. Concert starts at 7pm. Please see Mrs. Baron ASAP if you have any questions about this concert.

Also, if any band members have a gift card for the concert raffle tomorrow night, please remember to get it to Mrs. Baron TODAY!

Mrs. Baron is looking for the scuba diving waiver forms and medical forms from the students that are diving on Dec. 20th. If you have yours filled in and signed, please return to Mrs. Baron ASAP!

Our French Immersion band will be performing at Paul Kane High School in St. Albert today and we would like to wish you the very best in your performance!  We are proud of you using your French language and musical abilities!


 Today is the last day of Term 1 for option classes. Students will learn next week which option class they are in for the coming term.


 Tomorrow, Friday, December 1, is a Professional Development day for all teachers.  Students, enjoy your day off and long weekend!
 The Christmas Elves competition has been extended from Mon. Dec. 4 to Mon. Dec. 11.  Get your goods in to win the cake and more importantly, the bragging rights!  What is the first thing that elves learn in school?  The elf-abet!

Has your homeroom teacher spoken to you about the 43rd Annual JE Lapointe Christmas Elves Competition?  No?  Well, each year homeroom classes compete to raise the most goods for Christmas Elves.  The class with the most points wins a DQ Ice Cream Cake and a high five from Mr. Mistol. As of today, Mr. Slade’s class is in second with 17 points.  Mme Stewart leads with 745 points!  Ms. Jenson has none.
We have never had a grade 7 class win this competition before...can your class be the first?

Students, if you see yellow caution tape in the hallways or anywhere else in the school, this is an indication that you are to stay out of that area due to construction.  Please respect this expectation for your safety as well as the safety of the workers.  Please walk around as necessary and be careful not to touch any of the equipment.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Grade 8 students: on Dec 13 we will attending the play A Christmas Carol at the Citadel. This is a wonderful grade 8 tradition! Permission forms are now on powerschool. Please remind your parents to fill them out.

Congrats to the senior boys volleyball team on an amazing season!  They placed 4th in the league.
Congratulations to the Senior Ladies volleyball team for an incredible season that ended last night in a gold medal win and a district banner! Awesome season girls!!!

Library is closed at lunch.

Please find an appropriate place to go at lunch instead. Wandering the halls or moving from class to class is not a good option. Please either go have fun outside or find a classroom and stay there until the bell rings at 1:07.

The December Scuba diving FLEX session is now full. If you are interested in scuba diving for February or April, please get your form to Mrs. Baron.

This is a reminder that the choir will now be meeting Tuesday and Thursdays at lunch. The next practice will be tomorrow. The next three weeks of practice are prep for the Christmas concert, so please remember to attend!

Any Grade 8 students who are interested in taking Aqua Sports in term 2, please see Mrs. Duru at lunch recess.  For this class there are lessons (on various underwater sports) in December and February.  In January and March the swims are free swims.

Senior boys volleyball, there is no practice today due to parent teacher interviews.  Your last practice before playoffs is tomorrow at lunch.

Grade 8-9 girls are in the gym at lunch today.  If you are not a grade 8 or 9 girl and are caught sneaking in the gym, you shall receive a 2 week noon hour gym ban!

There are only 2 spots available for the Discover Scuba FLEX session on December 20th. If you are interested, please get your form and payment to Mrs. Baron ASAP!

We would like to thank all of our students who participated in our Remembrance Day Ceremony through your musical talents, poetry reading, dancing, and speaking.  Your contributions made our service meaningful in remembering all those who have offered their service for our country. Thank you also to our entire student population for your very respectful attention throughout the service. Finally, thank you for Mrs. Baron & Mr. Slade for coordinating this service as well as M. Morin for speaking, and all other teachers who assisted.

This is a reminder to all students that you are to go outside to enjoy some fresh air and a bit of exercise every day at noon. Please dress for the weather and then it is quite enjoyable to be outside. 

The exceptions to this are if you are scheduled to participate in the gym, you are going to the library, attending a club, or remaining in a class in which a teacher has said you may remain there.

Operation Christmas Child - hands-on project that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoeboxes .  We have been participating in this project for a number of years.  Last year, close to 700000 shoeboxes were donated by Canadians.  You can pick up a shoebox in Mr. Helgren’s office.

Are you almost 14? Are you thinking about taking your Learner’s test? Sign up for a learner’s permit study session during next week’s Flex.

Today is National Custodial Worker Recognition Day.  Please take some time to show your appreciation for our custodial staff!

This is Read-In-Week and to show our value for literacy and the pleasure of reading, our language arts classes will be focusing on a variety of reading activities.  We encourage all students to take some time each day and enjoy reading for fun, whether this be a novel, a magazine, a graphic novel, a work of non-fiction, or any other sort of reading!

To kick off the start of the NHL season, all students and staff are encouraged to wear the colours/clothing of their favorite NHL team this coming Wednesday, October 4.

Mrs. Baron would like to meet with any students interested in joining the choir today over the lunch hour. It is open to all students - grade 7, 8 and 9. Bring your lunch to the band room to eat there and then be ready to sing a little.

Volunteers are needed to help with the Remembrance Day Ceremony. If you are interested in speaking, reading a poem or performing a dance routine, please see Mrs. Baron.

Congratulations to the Senior girls and boys volleyball team who played in their first tournament of the season. Awesome job players! There is practice today after school.

There will be a short meeting for all Grade 7 band members going to Camp Evergreen tomorrow at lunch. Eat your lunch in your homeroom, then come to the band room when the bell to go outside rings. If you are going to camp, you MUST attend this meeting. Please remember to bring your camp activity waiver form.

There is a senior boys volleyball practice after school today.

Athletic hoodies for all cross country runners and volleyball players are available to purchase on powerschool. Deadline is this Friday.  Please see Mr. Mistol if you need help with sizing.

Staff and Students: Friday is Orange Shirt day. On this day we wear orange shirts to honour survivors of residential schools. Please join us in wearing orange.

To be completely safe until the water testing has been completed, please drink only the water from the water coolers that are beside the fountains.  Please reduce waste by filling your water bottles from these coolers.  If need be, we do have some paper cups to use. 

Terry Fox Run/Walk:  When we go on the Terry Fox Run, please remember that it is important to leave your electronics in your lockers, as well as to stay on sidewalks and off the roads and private property. When each class returns from the walk, each homeroom class will receive their hotdogs. Donations can be brought to the office

Students, if your parents have not completed the Walking Field Trip Permission Form, you will not be able to participate in the Terry Fox Run/Walk.  Homeroom teachers, please look through your list of students with permission and if students do yet have permission, they are to be brought down to the front entrance before you leave on the walk.

Wednesday Sept 27 during FLEX the entire school will be participating in our annual Terry Fox Run.  Students will have the choice to walk or run and will receive one hotdog and a bottle of water when they complete the course.

We encourage each student to contribute a “Toonie for Terry” or more to support the cause, if you are able, please drop your donation off in the office!

French Band practice are starting next Tuesday, See in Mme LaBrie’s class and M. Morin’s class for the list of who is practicing on Monday and who on Tuesday. Come prepare with at least one song you would like to do this year. The practice will be from 3h15 to 4h15.

Lunch recess in the gym - grade 7

We will probably have an indoor recess today.  All students are asked to eat lunch in their homeroom unless their homeroom teacher has given permission to eat in another specific homeroom.  Once the bell rings to end the eating period, students are to choose a location and stay there.  This could be the library, a classroom, or the gym (for grade 7 students only).

There will be a senior boys’ volleyball practice after school today until 4:15.  The team list is posted outside of the gym.  Thanks to every for trying out!

We are still missing approximately 100 walking permission forms,  these must be completed online by your parents.  Without these permission forms, you will not be able to leave the school grounds, even for phys ed. Please ask your parents to do so.

Students who take busses 58 and 69, please note that at the end of the day from now on, these busses will be arriving to our school first before heading to the other schools.  Please be sure to get out to the bus stop directly after the last class of the day as your busses will be leaving quickly.

Thank you to all of the girls who came out for volleyball tryouts yesterday after school. If you were not able to make it, you are still welcome to come to next week’s tryouts which will continue Monday and Wednesday after school. If you are unable to make a tryout, please come and speak to Mme Stewart.

Boys volleyball tryouts are today after school and will continue on Tuesday and Thursday of next week. If you are unable to make one of these tryouts, please speak to Mrs. Duru.


If you notice that staff members are dressed more casually than usual, it is because on Fridays we “Dress Down to Build Others Up”.  Staff members may dress more casually and donate money that we donate to others less fortunate.  Staff, the donation jar is in the office.

There are also a few cases without names, so if you have not taken your instrument home yet, please come and get yours to take home today.

Lost and found. we still have a large amount of lost and found items. Are you missing winter boots, ice skates, runners, hoodies??? Any items not claimed will be donated.

There are still 21 instruments left in the band room, along with a few folders. They are right inside the band room door along the brick wall. As announced all week, the school does not return instruments, so please take yours home today!

The midway from Beaumont’s Town and Country Daze will be set up on the soccer fields until next Monday.  Phys ed classes and all students must remain at the side of the school rather than at the back for the remainder of the week.  Thank you.

Due to a really busy Friday, GSA will meet on Monday, June 12th… not today… come and celebrate Pride Week! This will be our year end wrap up meeting.

A huge congratulations to all the band students who attended the concert last night. It was a great night of music and you all played so well. Mrs. Baron would like to especially thank everyone who stayed late to help clean up after the concert.

Teachers, please excuse the talent show performers and MC’s period 3. They will need to be getting ready for the show during this block. Mrs. Baron’s Travel option students are to meet in the gym for period 3 to help set up the gym. All other students should go to their homerooms for period 4 and wait to be called down to the gym.

Several students still have textile equipment signed out. Please return this equipment to the home ec room -  Failure to hand equipment in will result in a charge being added to your powerschool account.

The home ec room is open until 4:15 pm every day except Fridays for any student that would like to work on projects.

All students involved with the school play (actors and crew), please come to Mrs. DeBoer’s class for a quick meeting right after these announcements.

The gym is not available for PE today.  Please do not change for class.  Meet in the front foyer before heading outside.

Starting next week, Tuesday and Thursday June 13 and 15, we will be holding volleyball clinics and preliminary evaluations for any grade 7&8 boys and girls interested. If you enjoy the sport and would like to come and learn, or are wanting to try out for a team, please come to these clinics after school from 3:15 to approximately 4:30. The Year End Band Concert is coming up tomorrow, June 8th at 7pm. Doors open at 6:30 for students and parents. If you are able, please bring a loonie or toonie donation for the Thaddeus Lake Music Foundation. Donations will be taken at the door.

And just reminder for teachers that the gym will be used for concert setup and practice period 1 - 4 tomorrow. The band will be doing a run through of their concert songs periods 2 & 3, so if any classes want to drop by for a listen, you are welcome.

Assembly today at 10:15, this is the last assembly of the year and Merit Awards will be handed out.

The Talent Show is coming up this Friday! The list of performers will be posted on the band room door sometime this afternoon. Thank you to all who auditioned.

We would like to congratulate all of the members of our Drama production for their excellent efforts and performance last evening.  Many parents, family, and community members enjoyed the show.  We know that a drama production requires a lot of practice from all of the actors, as well as the efforts of the crew members to get everything ready!  Thank you also to Miss Jensen and Mrs. DeBoer for your skill as directors!

Tomorrow is the deadline to order a yearbook. Cost is $30 and can be ordered thru PowerSchool

Reminder to grade 9s going on the Jasper camping trip that there will be your bake sale tomorrow - please remember to bring in your items and drop them off at Miss Jensen’s classroom or the office in the morning.

Bake sale items will be $1.00 each so everyone bring your loonies and toonies tomorrow!

All cast and crew members for Mr Winkler’s Birthday should be in the gym right after break this morning. Bring everything you need for costume to the gym.

Talent show auditions continue tomorrow. Any remaining performers are to meet in the gym with their lunch at 12:14.

Fitness Friday is happening this Friday at 12:14. ANYONE, male or female, student or adult, is invited to come for a short 20 minute workout. Be changed and in room 115. Workout first, then eat!

Grade 7, 8 & 9 band members are reminded that your Year End Concert is next Thursday, June 8th at 7pm. Everyone is invited to attend with donations being accepted at the door for the Thaddeus Lake Music Foundation.

Lost and found items are still lined up in the hallway by the gym.  Please take some time during break or noon hour to check and see if you have any lost items. Items not collected today will be washed and donated to people who need clothing.

Zone track athletes - make sure your parents have signed your online permission forms.  We will be leaving right after the bell tomorrow, be prepared for the weather!

Grade nine pics that have not been submitted will be accepted today! The Gr. 9 farewell is Thursday evening at 6:30pm.
