April 29, 2016 Day 5
We would like to remind all students that you are invited to a Movie Night at our school tonight beginning at 7 p.m. Star War: The Force Awakens will be shown free of charge for all students and their families, and a cash concession will be available. Bring a friend, something comfortable to sit on, and join the fun! And the winners are….Mrs. Dorash’s 7A and Mlle Lawrence’s 7F classes have each won an ice cream party for being the first two classes to have their completed registration forms into the office. Are you interested in stage make-up? Would you like to learn about how to make someone look like an old person or decorate someone with cuts and bruises? Come talk to Mrs. DeBoer about learning these skills during a flex in May. Participants will receive their own make-ups kits and be able to practice in class. French Band meeting in Mme LaBrie’s class at recess today. Don’t forget this is important !!! Track - girls and boys discus tryouts today! Please meet on the soccer field at the benches at 12:15. Can all badminton players that borrowed a racquet from Mr. Mistol return it as soon as possible.  Also, please return your jersey.

Mrs Gabriel and Mrs Deboer are now missing three black chrome books from their cart. They are looking for S5,  S7, and S29. If you find one of these numbers, return it to them and they will buy you pizza!!!

Junior high track tryouts today!! Track and field tryout will likely be postponed today due to the weather.  We will make an announcement before lunch to let you know.

A huge congratulations goes out to the badminton team.  On Saturday, J.E. Lapointe won the Junior, Intermediate and Senior banners at the LDAA finals.  Individually, the team earned a medal in every category with 12 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.   Mr. Mistol and Mr. Bohun would like to thank all of the players for the commitment shown during the season. Practicing every day for two months was not always the easiest (especially at 7am) but based on the results, the hard work definitely paid off.   We'd like to have all team members meet in the gym at 12:15pm for a team picture and to sign the banners.  Please bring your jersey.

Any Grade 7 students who did not finish their soapstone project last quarter, can work on it in the Tech Ed lab tomorrow at lunch recess.

Congratulations to the concert and jazz bands and choir. They earned top marks and even a recommendation to the provincial choir festival. Way to go! Because of the provincial choir recommendation, Mrs. Baron needs to see the choir members today at the morning break in the band room.

Congratulations to the badminton team on their excellent performance in Devon this past Saturday. The team finished with 13 golds and 2 silver out of the 15 total categories.

Flex will be open for grade 7 block 1 and 2, grade 8 block 3 and 4, grade 9 block 5.  At 12:14 it will remain open for anyone that has not had a chance to sign up.  All students must be signed up by the end of the day Monday. Questions see Mrs Dorash

Grade 9 students will be registering for grade 10 courses this morning in room 122 (Ms Gervais’ classroom) Please listen carefully for your class to be called to to complete your registration just in case you are in an Option class.

FLEX update: there will be a change in sign up for tomorrow. Grade sevens will sign up block 1 and 2, grade 8’s: blocks 3 and 4 and grade 9’s block 5. Please sign up carefully as many courses are separated by grade level. You are only eligible to sign up for your grade. If you have any question 
please check with your homeroom teacher or Mrs. Dorash. 

Badminton practice today after school for all intermediates and junior players who are playing in the tournament this weekend. Also - there is a very brief meeting for all players who are playing this Saturday. Please meet in the gym at l2:15pm today.

We forgot to acknowledge an important date yesterday,,,it was 36 years ago that Terry Fox began his cross country journey to raise money for cancer research.

Here are the details for our school bands performing at Leduc Music Festival Thursday & Friday. The details are long, so students are asked to please listen carefully :) Teachers, some of these students need to eat their lunch period 5 on Thursday. Thank you for allowing them to do so…

Thursday morning - Grade 7 Band - the bus is leaving at 8:30am, so students are reminded to wear black and white, and get to school by 8:20am to load their instrument in a parent truck before getting on the bus. Bass players are reminded to bring their bass amps please.

Thursday afternoon - Grade 8 & Grade 9 Band, as well as various solos, duets and a trio. These students are reminded to wear black and white, and eat during period 5, as the bus will be leaving at 12:30 on Thursday. Instruments are to be loaded in parent trucks at 12:15 before getting on the bus. Bass players are reminded to bring their bass amps please.

Friday morning - Both Jazz Bands, as well as the Various solos and duets will be leaving the school by 8:30am, so don’t forget to wear all black and be at the school by 8:20am. The jazz bands will be returning to the school for lunch. The solos & duets will be staying at the high school to eat.

Congratulations to the choir on receiving a Gold with Distinction placing yesterday at the festival. This is the highest placing possible. Congratulations to all the speech arts students that are performing this week. Many have received Gold with Distinction as well!

There are still a few students that need to hand in their permission forms for the festival. Please get yours to Mrs. Baron today.

The J.E. Lapointe School Council will be hosting another movie night on Friday, April 29.  The movie will be “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” beginning at 7 p.m. All JE students and families are welcome!  Please see the posters around the school for more information.

Congratulations to the badminton team on their performance in Ardrossan and Sherwood Park on the weekend.  J.E. Lapointe won the aggregate trophy for top team at both tournaments!  Great job guys.

All French Band members meet in Mme LaBrie’s class at recess today. Don’t forget to bring some songs ideas.

Congratulations goes out to the badminton team on their dominant performance at Dansereau Meadows last night.  JE Lapointe came away with 8 gold, 6 Silver and 5 bronze medals.

Also, there will be a brief meeting in the gym for all team members playing in tomorrows tournament.
