Congratulations to the Senior Boys Basketball Team who started out the season on a positive note by winning the A Blair McPherson Invitational Tournament with a convincing win over Millwoods Christian School.

Mr. Mistol’s Option A class will be at the arena today.  Bring a clean pair of shoes.

A reminder for the students that watched the video last week and are going scuba diving for FLEX this week...Please meet with Mrs. Baron TODAY. Please bring your lunch to Room 115 at 12:14. Please also remember to bring your paperwork that has been signed by your parent or guardian.

An early Christmas gift for the students in jazz band. Your early morning practice is cancelled tomorrow morning.

The students that watched the scuba video yesterday are reminded to NOT sign up as you will be diving :)

The Jr. Girls Basketball team is reminded that your practices next week are both morning practices. They will be Monday and Wednesday morning. Practice starts at 7am, so please be at the school 10 minutes early to change and get ready to go.

The 8C and 8D classes are trying to promote random acts of kindness in the school.  If one of them catches you in a random act of kindness, they may give you a certificate to acknowledge your good deed.  If you bring your certificate to Mrs. Duru's room, you will receive a small token of appreciation for spreading positivity and kindness in our school!

We would like to express our appreciation to Emily Bayer for creating and displaying the exhibit in our front foyer.  Thank you, Emily, for spending your free time contributing to a welcoming and attractive display!

Congratulations to Mrs. Baron and all of the many grade 7,8, and 9 band and choir students that performed at our annual Christmas concert last evening.  This was a great evening of music and we are so proud of the efforts and accomplishments of all of our music students!

As is an annual tradition at our school, the Grade 8 students will be seeing “A Christmas Carol” at the Citadel tomorrow.  Students, because we will be leaving mid-morning, please remember to bring a lunch to school which you will be able to eat before we board the bus.  No food or beverages will be allowed on the bus or into the theatre. Teachers, please review the Citadel expectations with your class at some point today.

Congratulations to the Senior Girls’ Volleyball team who despite a disadvantage made it to the gold medal match and narrowly lost to Beau Comp. It was an excellent end to the season as the girls played their best games as a team. Way to go!

These classes are only being offered during period 4 & 5 for the band students, so any band students in Construction 9 and Foods 8 are to go to the combined practice period 3 in the band room. Any students that want to be put in “the win your own steampunk thing’ draw should write their first and last name, and homeroom on a piece of paper provided to their homeroom teacher. On Monday, Oct 31, during the Halloween activities, a name from each grade and the staff will be picked and they are declared the winners.The prizes are: 2 top hats, a lightbulb spider and a steampunk’d bottle.  If your name is chosen, you will be able to pick one of these prizes from the table.

In respect for the Honourable Norman L. Kwong, former Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, our flags will be at half-mast until after his public state memorial on September 13. Lieutenant Kwong was well respected and reverred as  the first Canadian of Asian heritage to play for the CFL, the youngest player to win a Grey Cup, as an active businessman, and as a Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.

Reminder that Senior Ladies’ volleyball tryouts (for grade 8s and 9s) will be today after school and Tuesday after school at 3:15pm and Wednesday at lunch. If you have any questions please see Mme Stewart or Mrs. Kay.

There will be a grade 8 & 9 boys’ volleyball tryout in the gym today after school.

Please be reminded that all students are to remain in their homerooms with their teachers during the noon hour until the bell has rung.  Students are not to go into the hallway to put items in their locker until the bell rings. Once the bell rings, students are to go directly outside to enjoy some fresh air and exercise!

Fridays are Dress Down to Build Others Up at JEL.  This means that staff members are encouraged to dress more casually than on other days, and to donate money to assist those who may not be as fortunate as we are.

All students, please be respectfully quiet in the hallways at all times during exams.

Due to busy schedules and final exams, the Senior Ladies’ Volleyball session after school today is cancelled. Thank you to all the girls that came out, we saw great improvement and potential in all players. Please listen to announcements in September and be ready for tryouts the first week back at school.

Lost and found & boot rooms - check and take home all belongings. Items not claimed will be donated next week. Small items, jewelry, keys, etc can be claimed in the office. The bluetooth speaker is still unclaimed.

This is another reminder that the school does not return instruments. There are still a lot of instruments in the band room as of yesterday. It has been announced all week that these instruments are to go home by TODAY, so please make arrangements to do this.

Mrs. Baron is looking for help tonight for the Instrument Zoo happening at 6:30pm. If you can help with saxophone or trombone, please see her sometime today.

The students that signed up for the 22 minute workout should change into their gym clothes at the morning break, so the workout can get started right away. Please meet Mrs. Baron in the band room for the workout.

Beaumont Daze Midway is being set up this week on the soccerfield.  We, as well as the owners of the midway, would appreciate it if you do not go near their property during the school day.

Please check the TYE DYE list outside rm 103 to confirm if you are registered for FLEX tomorrow.  If you are, you must bring a clean, white cotton garment.

All students must be signed up for FLEX by lunch time today.

The choir is reminded of your potluck today in the band room at 12:14. Grade 7’s are welcome to bring snacks to their period 7 & 8 class today, Grade 9’s are reminded of their breakfast potluck period 1 & 2 Thursday morning and Grade 8’s of the lunch time potluck period 4 on Thursday morning.

Band students are reminded to return their band books during class time today and Thursday. Please give your book directly to Mrs. Baron, do not leave it in the band room or take to the library, as Mrs. Baron is collecting the books first.

Sr Boys’ volleyball tryouts will be today at 3:30

At the end of the school year all locks have to be accounted for.  If you don’t have a lock to return you will be charged $8.00 on Powerschool  Please note that even if you’re in grade nine the charge will stay on Powerschool when you enter the highschool.

All grade 9 students will be writing exams in the afternoons this week, and some grade 7 and 8 classes will be writing exams some mornings.  Students, we ask that you please remember this and keep quiet in the hallways as you transition between classes.

Just a reminder that Senior Ladies volleyball try-outs will continue this week on Tuesday and Thursday until 4:30. For all those interested, there will be an information sheet about the Griffin’s summer volleyball camp located in a folder on the Phys. ed board.

Band students are reminded to take their instruments and band folders home by the end of this week, as the school DOES NOT return instruments. Please see Mrs. Baron for a rental return note if your family is not sure what to do.

If you use a school owned instrument, please have it back in the music room by tomorrow, as they are going in for cleanup and repair.

The PowerSchool Portal will close at 4 p.m. today, students are always welcome to see their teachers if they have questions regarding their marks.


Reminder: Students who are signed up for the Drama make-up Flex session with Mrs. DeBoer this Wednesday do not need to sign up for flex.

Hoodie participants are invited for a pizza party lunch today at 12:15 in the drama room.

Lost and found...students check the lost and found for any large items. Smaller items such as glasses and jewelry can be claimed in the office.

The Year End Band and Choir concert is tonight at 7pm. Anyone performing should be set up and in the gym with your instrument by 6:50pm. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Donations will be taken for the Thaddeus Lake Foundation, so please remind your families to bring a loonie or toonie to donate to this wonderful cause.

Bass players are reminded to bring their amps from home, so there are enough for everyone to play.
Teachers are reminded that gym set up will take place period 8.

The Year End Band and Choir concert is this Thursday at 7pm. Students performing that night are to be at the school by 6:30pm, dressed in flip flops, shorts & tank tops or a light summer dress. Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door for the Thaddeus Lake Music Foundation.

Students going scuba diving during FLEX tomorrow are to meet in the band room at 10:02. The bus needs to LEAVE by 10:10am, so Mrs. Baron will be taking attendance at about 10:07. You do not need to bring your lunch, just your swimsuit and towel.

Mrs. Baron needs to hear from the band students that are willing to come help with the Instrument Zoo tonight. This is a time for the new students coming to play in the Grade 7 band next year to try out all the instruments. It starts at 6:30pm and will run about an hour. If you are willing to help with an instrument station, please let Mrs. Baron know at lunch! Helpers are needed for flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone and tuba. This is a great opportunity for those of you who need volunteer hours, so see Mrs. Baron over lunch if you can make it!

A reminder to the FLEX scuba students that you will be going to the pool this Wednesday. Please meet in the band room with your swimsuit, towel and anything else you need during the morning break. You will be leaving at 10:10am. You do not need to bring your lunch, as you will be back to the school by about 12:15.

Band and choir students are reminded that your Year End concert is this Thursday at 7pm. Everyone is invited to attend this great night of music!

Miss Jensen has got her fingers crossed for all of the grade 9 students auditioning today and tomorrow for the Musical Theatre program at the high school. Please let her know how it goes, she’s very excited for all of you. From all the staff here, break a leg!

A huge congratulations goes out to all of our track and field athletes who competed at zones yesterday in St. Albert.  Our team did extremely well with numerous top 6 finishes.  We also had four athletes win the zone 5 championship for their event. We are very proud of all of you!!

A reminder that Pizza Tuesday has permanently been moved to Pizza Friday!

Attention Hoodie Cast and Crew.  To recognize your efforts these past few months and to celebrate a job well done, Miss Jensen and Mrs DeBoer are inviting you to a Hoodie Wrap Up Lunch on June 9th. Next thursday we will be having a potluck for any interested cast and crew members to join us in celebrating an awesome job of our first ever Drama Production at J.E. Please see Miss Jensen for more details.

Reminder to anyone who brought in Bake Sale items last week that Miss Jensen has a few lost containers in her classroom.  If you brought something and did not pick up your container, please see her by the end of the day. Thanks again to all students who helped bake and sell items over the last month.  We now have food to eat in Jasper!

The year end band and choir concert is coming up next Thursday, June 9th, so practices will resume this week to prepare for that concert

There will be a meeting for the scuba diving FLEX students this Friday at 12:14. Please come to the band room with your lunch right after the bell. You will eat in the band room, not your homeroom.

Grade 7 & 8 band members are reminded to hand in their blue NATIONALS commitment interest letter to Mrs. Baron by June 15th.

A huge congratulations goes out to our Track and Field team.  They competed in the rain and wind at the LDAA finals yesterday and had numerous top 6 finishes.  Although the final results have not yet been sent out, we are confident that approximately 20-23 of our athletes have qualified for zones.  Please meet in the gym at l2:14 to grab a new permission slip if think you have qualified for Thursdays meet.

PIZZA FRIDAY!!!!  Plus ice cream sandwich giveaways AND the Bake Sale for Jasper.  We will go back to pizza TUESDAY next week.

Thank you to all who auditioned for the talent show. It takes courage to do this, so thank you. Congratulations to the students who made it! There will be a brief meeting for everyone at 12:14 in the music room, followed by a practice for all vocalists.

Mrs. Baron would like to run the scuba diving option during FLEX in two weeks, but she needs a few more students. Those who were interested and took forms are reminded to please return them asap!

There are 5 more spots in the Drama make-up session taking place on June 15. If you are interested in signing up, please see Mrs. DeBoer

As all Fridays, today is Dress Down to Build Others Up for our staff.  For any staff who are dressing more casually than usual, or wearing Sabre clothing, the donation jar is in the main office.

Track: permission slips and payment are due today!  No Form - no track meet. There will be a finalized list of events and participants on the athletics board at the break.  See Mr Mistol or Mrs Dorash if you have any questions

Because of this, Mrs. Baron has a commitment letter for you to pick up. Please pick yours up in the music room at morning break, during lunch or after school.

Thank you to all of those grade nine students who sent Mr. Slade pictures.  He is still in need of about 100 of you!  Unless you want your school picture used in a special presentation, please send Mr. Slade your fave picture or two as soon as possible!

Bake Sale Day!! Come bring your dollars to the front foyer at lunch today to help support the grade 9 Jasper Trip. Grade 9 students who brought in items can bring them into Miss Jensen’s class for safe keeping until lunch.  Please make sure any containers are marked with your name so we know who to return it to.

Attention all students.  The grade 9 math classes are conducting various surveys for a project in Statistics and Probability.  We are asking that you check your student emails and complete any of the google forms that have been sent to you.  This should only take a couple minutes of your day and be easily completed at lunch or at home.  Our future data analysts appreciate you!

SWAT will meet today during lunch in rm 122.

Also a reminder that forms and payment must be in by the end of the day tomorrow or you will not be able to come on Monday.
